Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure which involves using an infrared light to locate reticular veins which feed into superficial and spider veins, then injecting a small amount of solution (a mixture of hypertonic saline and lidocaine), which will sclerose and close the pathway, eliminating the unsightly branching (spider) veins.
